METAIRIE, La. Kemba Walker Jersey . - After leading the Saints to a fourth playoff appearance in five seasons, Drew Brees expressed confidence in the direction of his team and, perhaps more importantly, showed a willingness to listen to contract proposals if the team needs his help getting under the NFLs salary cap. "Listen, I get compensated very well. I dont take that for granted for one second," Brees said Monday, referring to the five-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2012. "But I play this game because I love this game, I love this locker room and I love the opportunity to win a championship. "If they want to come to me and extend me even further, thatd be great," Brees said. "Whatever helps this team win and puts the best team on the field." With Sean Payton returning from his bounty suspension, the Saints improved their regular-season record from 7-9 to 11-5, then won the franchises first road playoff game in six tries, beating the Eagles in Philadelphia in the wild card round before falling at top-seeded Seattle, 23-15 on Saturday. Brees eclipsed 5,000 yards passing for a third straight season to go with 39 touchdowns. Meanwhile, New Orleans defence went from worst in the league a year ago to fourth in total defence under first-year co-ordinator Rob Ryan. And that improvement came despite a rash of injuries. All in all, it looks as if the Saints arent far off from Super Bowl contention — if they can find the salary cap space to keep some top free agents such as tight end Jimmy Graham, who led New Orleans with 1,215 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns. Brees contract calls for him to have a base salary of $10.75 million next season, which along with his pro-rated $37 million signing bonus will put his 2014 salary cap figure above $18 million. Graham has said his preference would be to remain with Brees in New Orleans. The Saints can secure Graham for at least another year by placing the franchise tag on the four-year veteran, but players and teams generally prefer to avoid that route and seek long-term extensions instead. Other starters entering free agency include free safety Malcolm Jenkins, right tackle Zach Strief and centre Brian de la Puente. Strief, who has spent his entire eight-year career in New Orleans, said he wants to be back, but would clean his locker out entirely for the first time, knowing the Saints might not match other offers in what he views as his last, best chance to sign a new contract. "Obviously this organizations been a big part of my life and I feel like Ive been part of the success here and you dont want to leave that," Strief said. "The reality of the situation is I think theres going to be other possible outcomes, and theres other teams, possibly, and you prepare for that — not because its what you want but because its the reality." Jenkins, a five-year veteran, said he, too, wants to return, but understands "it doesnt always work out that way." Still, he emphasized he was proud to be part of a defence that made enormous progress this season. "Theres not a group of guys that Id rather play with," Jenkins said. "Weve come a long way, obviously night and day from last year." One problem for New Orleans is that its existing contracts would likely place the club more than $10 million above the 2014 salary cap, which has not yet been set, but is expected to be in the range of $125 million. One way teams seek salary cap relief is by renegotiating with, or releasing, veteran players with the largest base salaries. In New Orleans case, those players could include outside linebacker Will Smith, left guard Ben Grubbs, cornerback Jabari Greer, defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, safety Roman Harper and receiver Lance Moore. Smith spent the season on injured reserve after tearing a knee ligament in the preseason. Greer had season-ending torn ligaments in his knee in November. Yet the injuries also provided opportunities for younger players, many of whom demonstrated significant growth and will remain under contracts less burdensome to the club. Those included rookie left tackle Terron Armstead, who took over as starter in Week 16, second-year defensive end Akiem Hicks, fourth-year outside linebacker Junior Galette, as well as rookie receiver Kenny Stills and rookie running back Khiry Robinson. Payton refused to address potential personnel moves, but confidently brushed aside questions about New Orleans impending salary cap constraints. "Were going to be in good shape," Payton said. "Obviously when theres change from season to season, theres attrition. Theres the younger players that are coming in and the players eventually that have been here that are no longer on the team. I think thats pretty normal, and well be ready for the challenge." Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Jersey . His job doesnt depend on whether he gets that post-season berth. At least thats what owner Jerry Jones said Thursday. While saying he was "disappointed" in a 5-5 record that has dropped the Cowboys out of the top spot in the NFC East for the first time this season, Jones said Garrett will return in 2014 regardless of whether the Cowboys end their three-year playoff drought. "Im disappointed we dont have a better record, but he has got us in position to win the division and got a team here I firmly believe has the ability to be one of the better playing teams at the end," said Jones, addressing about a dozen reporters on the teams practice field. "A lot of this story is to be played out. It does not have a bearing on whether or not he will be our coach next year. It has no bearing on that." Asked if Garrett would be his coach next year, Jones twice said yes. The Cowboys are a half-game behind idle Philadelphia (6-5) going into an important division game at the New York Giants (4-6), who can tie Dallas for second after starting the season 0-6. Garrett wasnt sentimental about returning to the site of his first game -- a 33-20 win after Wade Phillips was fired with the Cowboys at 1-7 in 2010 -- and he wasnt particularly moved when told of Jones comments. "Were talking about practicing well today," said Garrett, who was a backup to Troy Aikman in the 1990s and was hired by Jones as offensive co-ordinator in 2007 before Phillips was named head coach. "Thats what were going to focus on, and thats something we emphasize to our team. Thats something we have to live as a coaching staff." The Cowboys finish the regular season at home against the Eagles. They have lost a playoffs-or-bust finale to a division rival each of Garretts two full seasons. Dallas had its worst game under Garrett in a 49-17 loss to New Orleans before last weeks bye, gaining less than 200 yards for the first time in a gaame Tony Romo started and finished, and giving up more than 600 yards for the second time in three weeks. Larry Johnson Hornets Jersey. The defence had never allowed that many yards in franchise history. The Cowboys are still in a favourable position with a 3-0 division record, but a loss to New York would be their third in four games after falling out of first during the bye when Philadelphia beat Washington. Still, Jones doesnt want to call Sundays game a must for his team. "Just how we see at any time how another team can win," Jones said. "When you look at our division opponents and who they are playing and you look at who weve got to play, its hard to measure from here." Jones backed his coach in a similar way at the start of training camp in July, saying he didnt believe this was an "Armageddon" year for Garrett, who is 26-24 in his first 50 games. The owners latest words were welcome news in the locker room. "Hes a great coach," said defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, the teams sacks leader. "I know you guys think differently. Yall rag him all the time, but I think hes an awesome coach and I wish the best for him in the future and Im glad the Cowboys will have him back. He deserves it." Receiver Dez Bryant has spoken frequently about Garretts role in helping a young player who struggled with his maturity on and off the field. "He always stays on me because he believes in me, and I thank him for it," Bryant said. "Hes always checking on us. He sees how our day goes. I know everybody around the league dont get that." Notes: The Cowboys released CB Micah Pellerin and signed LB Orie Lemon, raising doubts about rookie LB DeVonte Hollomans availability after missing four games with a neck injury. Holloman practiced Wednesday but was not on the field Thursday. Pellerin played in two games after signing off the practice squad. Lemon signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He played in five games last season. Kansas City released him at the end of training camp, and he was signed to Arizonas practice squad Oct. 8. TORONTO - Forgive Dwane Casey if hes not jumping up and down as a result of his teams first win of the exhibition season. Wayne Gretzky Rangers Jersey . Although the Raptors coach acknowledges the positives - and there were several of them - to be taken out of Mondays 97-89 preseason victory over the Celtics, there was one thing that was on his mind the following afternoon. "Turnovers," he emphasized after practice on Tuesday. "26 turnovers is way too many. Weve got to make sure we cut those down." Preseason rust is a phenomenon that has been known to affect even the best of teams and Casey understands that. Its also not hugely surprising for a Raptors team that has spent the bulk of training camp working strictly on their defence. Casey accepts this premise, but he wont excuse it. "We[ve] got to get those down," Casey said of the offensive miscues. "Probably in half, is my goal once we get going. A lot of it is rust, we spent a lot more time defensively than we have offensively." Protecting the ball was one of Torontos strengths a year ago when they averaged just 13.7 turnovers per game, third best in the NBA. By halftime on Monday the Raptors had turned the ball over 16 times and each of their starters finished the game with three or more giveaways. "It was the first game," said Terrence Ross, who had just one turnover in a standout 12-point performance. "Its not going to be perfect [but] were working on it." The young Celtics scored 26 points off Torontos 26 turnovers but the Raptors were able to overcome their mistakes thanks in large part to efficient shooting (52 per cent), an inspired performance on the boards and a defensive effort that met their coachs high expectations. "We did a lot of good things defensively," Casey said after preaching a re-commitment on that end of the floor throughout the first week of camp. "Weve got to continue that, build on that [and] cut down on some of the mistakes we made defensively but most of all we made up for the mistakes with effort." Casey will continue to emphasize defence first and foremost but making the most of each possession will undoubtedly be a focus for his team when they host the Timberwolves at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday. "Its something that were going to be more conscious of in the next game," Ross admitted. "I dont think well get 26 turnovers [or] anywhere near that again." Eliminating "cheap" fouls Another focus for Caseys club has been increasing their defensive intensity while also decreasing the unnecessary fouls theyre being called for, a tricky act to balance and one the Raptors have had a tough time with in the past. Toronto has committed more fouls than any other NBA team in each of the two seasons since Casey took over as head coach. Last year they were whistled for a shade over 22 violations per game, down from 23 the season before. On par with their 2012-13 average the Raptors committed 22 fouls on Monday, six of them called on Jonas Valanciunas who fouled out late in the fourth quarter. One of the (few) pitfalls that comes with employing a group of high-energy big men is the foul trouble thats likely to ensue. That will be the challenge for Valanciunas, Amir Johnson - who led the league in fouls last season - and spark plug Tyler Hansbrough. They are far too valuable to be constrained to the bench for long stretches. "The fouls we dont want to have are the cheap ones," Casey said. "Where youre reaching and grabbing, not in position. Ill take that hard play and try to correct it as we go." For Valanciunas its about playing under control on defence and when fighting for position in the low post. Casey and the coaching staff have been working with the sophomore centre on his balance as well as his vertical shot contest. "When he goes up, what we call verticality," Casey said, "and then he comes down with the hand, he thinks hes going straight up but human nature brings the hand down and he gets a cheap foul." Praise for Hansbrough Hansbrough was a popular man at practice on Tuesday. His reputation precedes him. You love him if hes on youre team, you hate him if hes not, we were told. Turns out he makes friends quick. "Tylers my favourite player on the team," Ross joked, a day after Hansbrough debuted for the Raptors with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench. "I love playing with him," he continued. "It makes my job a lot easier knowing that hes down there battling. Hes usually taking on two guys so theres more people focused on Tyler. He slows a lot of things down for us so its great having him on the team." Lowry banged up Kyle Lowry banged his hand in practice Tuesday morning, according to Coach Casey. His status is not known but should be updated prior to Wednesdays preseason game. Its not believed to be serious. It was just the kind of effort they needed against a team that had played the night before, particularly one thats ahead of them in the standings. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored two goals, Thomas Greiss stopped 30 shots and the Coyotes kicked off an important five-game homestand with a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. "We caught a team at the right time, but that being said, I thought we played the right kind of game to take advantage of it," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "We kept getting pucks deep, we put some pucks at the net and it was a pretty solid game throughout our lineup." The Coyotes needed to string together some victories during their homestand after a rough stretch dropped them to ninth in the Western Conference. They responded with arguably their best game of the season, playing solid in their own end while peppering Jonathan Quick with 29 shots. Antoine Vermette had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to five games and Shane Doan had his 500th career assist on Ekman-Larssons second goal. That was more than enough for Greiss, who had his second shutout this season, third career. "It was a huge game for us," Ekman-Larsson said. "We talked about this game and I think we played well for 60 minutes." Los Angeles laboured after playing the night before and for the fourth time in six nights. The Kings also continued to struggle in the offensive zone. Los Angeles was relegated to the outside mostly in the first two periods and hit the post twice in the third, unable to get anything past Greiss. The Kings have scored two goals in their past four games and have lost six of seven. "Tonight, I dontt know how many really good chances we had," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. James Patrick Rangers Jersey. "Probably a bit of them playing really well and us not being hungry enough to get to the dirty areas and if were going to score goals, thats what were going to have to get back to." The Coyotes have been tumbling down the Western Conference standings, losing seven of their past 10 games. They did rally from a 4-2 deficit to earn a point against Vancouver Sunday night behind Vermettes third career hat trick. Phoenix still had its offensive mojo going early against the Kings, creating some good chances and while getting traffic in front of Quick, who made some tough stops, including a sprawling save on Jeff Halpern. Ekman-Larsson broke through late in the first period, whipping a wrister from the point past Quick. A physical game between two rivals became even rougher in the second period, when Jordan Nolan levelled Kyle Chipchura with a shoulder, setting of a scrum along the boards. Phoenix got a power play out of it and scored 12 seconds into it, when Ekman-Larsson beat Quick with a slapshot just outside the faceoff circle. Greiss had a string of tough saves as the game opened up late in the second period and Vermette put it out of reach in the third, punching in a rebound for his team-leading 19th goal of the season. The Kings hit the post twice in the final period, but, as has been the case lately, the pucks caromed away instead of into the net. "Theres a team-wide frustration and a personal frustration for some guys in here," Brown said. NOTES: Vermette has six goals and two assists during his points streak. ... EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Eskimos season has been bad, but at least they prevented it from being history book bad. Bruno Caboclo Jersey . Fred Stamps reeled in a pair of touchdown passes as the Eskimos snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 25-7 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. Edmonton (2-9) won for their first time at Commonwealth Stadium this season, avoiding a new team record for consecutive losses at home in a game between the CFLs two worst teams. The Eskimos also avoided tying records for most losses in a row at nine set in 1963 and for the worst start to a season set in 1971. "Weve been so close so many times, only to fall short," said Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly, who threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 113 yards. "You cant help but start to wonder if it is ever going to happen. To finally come out and put together a good performance and be in control of the game for pretty much all four quarters was a nice change-up. We still have a lot to improve on though." Eskimos linebacker J.C. Sherritt hopes that finally getting a win may lead the team in the other direction. "Luckily we got all the bad out early," he said. "There is a lot of season to be played and I think everyone who watches the CFL knows how weird it can get. We just have to keep this going now." The Blue Bombers dropped to 2-9 and continued to struggle trying to capture back-to-back wins, having gone more than two years since the last time they were able to. "It was a comedy of errors," said Winnipeg head coach Tim Burke. "We had way too many turnovers. I think our calls on defence didnt help our players out and I am just as much to blame for that. We just did dumb things all throughout the game." Edmonton caught a big break early in the game as it appeared that Bomber Demond Washington had scored a 77-yard punt return touchdown after the Eskimos went three-and-out on their opening drive. However, the play came back on a holding penalty. The penalty proved even more pivotal two plays later as Winnipeg starting quarterback Justin Goltz had the ball pop loose after a hit by Donovan Alexander and J.C. Sherritt scooped it up at the Edmonton 51. The Eskimos quickly marched down field and scored on an eight-yard passing play from Reilly to Stamps. It was the first time that Edmonton scored a first-quarter touchdown since their Week 2 victory over Hamilton. The Eskimos added a 25-yard Hugh ONeill field goal with four minute left in the opening frame to lead 10-0. Edmontons defence came up big again with three minutes remaining in the first as Chris Rwabukamba picked off a Goltz pass at the Eskimo 51-yard-line. The interception eventually set up a 16-yard TD reception by Adarius Bowman. Edmonton led 17-0 at the end of a first quarter that saw Goltz and the Bombers record negative two passing yards. The second quarter had a much more sedate start as Winnipeg put their first points on the board, as Sandro DeAngelis kicked a 17-yard field goal with two minutes left to make it 17-3. However, the Eskimos quickly countered one minute later as a 45-yard QB keeper by Reilly set up a 25-yard pass into the end zone for Stamps second touchdown on the game and a 24-3 Edmonton lead at the half. Max Hall came into quarterback the Bombers to start the third and briefly sparked the offence before being intercepted in the end zone by Edmonton defensive back Chris Thompson. Winnipeg had a single on a missed field-goal attempt late in the third quarter to make it 24-4. The Eskimos had a punt single early in the fourth before Winnipeg countered with a field goal. The game wound down with an incredibly odd play. The Bombers tried a third down gamble deep in Edmonton territory but the snap was nowhere near the quarterback and the charging Edmonton defenders kicked it down the field. Marcus Howard picked it up and then threw it over his head to Eric Samuels, who looked to have scored a touchdown. The play was called back on an interference call, although Edmonton got possession and was able to run out the clock. The mistake still irked Burke. "I dont know why we snapped the ball when we did it," he said. "It was just different things like that all throughout the game that cost us." The two teams will face each other in a rematch on Friday in Winnipeg. Notes: The Esks and Bombers have split the last five season series. No team has swept the series since 2006 ... MONTREAL -- Brendan Gallagher felt a little hard done by the referees. Anthony Davis Jersey . In the final minute of play in Winnipegs 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, Gallagher was roughed up by three different Jets players, preventing him from leaving the offensive zone. With their net empty, and an extra player on the ice for a Canadiens team looking for the equalizer, Gallagher was kept on the wrong side of the blue-line for roughly 20 seconds, keeping his team from entering Winnipegs zone. Gallagher was crosschecked into the net by Zach Bogosian, punched and then elbowed in the head by goaltender Al Montoya in the crease, and then elbowed again by defenceman Jacob Trouba. There was no call on the play. "There could have been five penalties there," said head coach Michel Therrien, who watched the replay before speaking to the media. "Were definitely going to ask the league for explications. Its very frustrating. It could have given us the chance to tie the game." But Montoya, who made 30 saves for his 10th win of the season, wasnt buying any of it, and suggested the Habs forward was doing his best to stay in the zone and draw a penalty. "No. 11?" Montoya asked, apparently not knowing Gallagher by name. "We were all caught up. The referees saw that. They were there. You know he was doing something for a reason." After the game, defenceman Josh Gorges spoke to the press on Gallaghers behalf, calling the five-foot-nine forward too "fired up" and "heated" to address questions about the games final minute. "I have to be careful with what I say," said Gorges. "It was pretty evident they were not allowing him to get out of the zone. He took a punch to the head from the goalie, got tripped up from the defenceman, and the guy coming off the bench gave him another shot." To make matters worse, Gallagher made three trips to the penalty box during the game, for roughing, holding, and tripping. He finished the game with two shots, six penalty-minutes and a minus-1 rating. "I cant comment on how (the referees) feel towards any one individual player," said Gorges. "I dont know if theres a grudge or something. Its too bad." With the game tied at 1-1 going into the third period, Michael Frolik scored the eventual winner at 1:04 after a Winnipeg dump-in was mishandled by netminder Carey Price. The Jets captain Andrew Ladd took the puck off Prices stick, and found a streaking Frolik in front of the net. The Canadiens (29-21-6) kept the pressure on Montoya and the Jets in the final frame, but couldnt benefit from two power plays. Winnipeg held on for their eighth win in 10 games since Paul Maurice took over as head coach on Jan. 12. The Jets (27-25-5) are still in last place in the Central Division, but are only four points off the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Winnipeg has now won four of its last five on the road, and beat the Canadiens for the first time in seven encounters. "Weve made some pretty big strides," said Maurice. "Theres still a lot to cover. Its what we want our team to look like. We want to define what the Winnipeg Jets game is. And thats going to take a long time to do. "Were big and were fast and were young. And we want to use that. We want to be aggressive with our size and our speed." The Jets benefited from good speed by Tobias Enstrom in the second period when he opened the scoring at 9:13 on a great individual effort. The Winnipeg defenceman carried the puck along the end boards, circled the net and squeezed a shot under Prices glove on the wraparound for his sixth of the year. After hitting two posts in the period, the Canadiens got their equalizer courtesy of a quick release wrister by Brian Gionta at 17:06. While playing 4-on-4 hockey, the Canadiens captain took a pass from Tomas Plekanec on his backhand, quickly switched to the forehand and fired home a sharp shot into the roof of the net. And despite the incident with Gallagher in the dying seconds, Gorges thought the Canadiens shouldnt have left it so late. "Thats not what happened tonight, that wasnt the difference," said Gorges of the altercation. "But it was a frustrating end to the game." Price, playing his second game in as many days, made 33 saves in the loss. NOTES: Michael Bournival was back in the Canadiens lineup after missing Saturdays game with the flu. Randolph scored 14 of his 28 points in the final period and grabbed 11 rebounds, Gasol had 18 points, eight boards and eight assists, and the Grizzlies eked out an 89-86 victory Friday night for their first road victory of the season. "Everybody knows that we go as Zach goes. Thats our horse, him and Marc. And we need them to continue that throughout the year," guard Tony Allen said. "Everybody came here with their antennas up, and everybody just wanted to get this win more than the other team. And it showed. We played hard for 48 minutes." Mike Conley had 11 points and seven assists for the Grizzlies in the opener of a four-game California trip. Last season they finished with a winning road record for the first time at 24-17, third-best in the NBA. "It felt good, especially being our first road win of the season," Randolph said. "We had been up and down and inconsistent, so it was just good to get a win and build from here." Reserve shooting guard Jodie Meeks had 25 points for the Lakers (4-7), who have lost four of their last five games without their injured starting backcourt of Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash. They are off to their worst start through 11 games since 2002-03, when they began 3-8 following their third straight championship. "Kobes not out there to bail us out, but we have good players on this team and everyone is confident in one another," Meeks said. Hill, who averaged 19.5 points in his first two starts of the season, put the Lakers in a bind after picking up two fouls 40 seconds apart and went to the bench with 8:12 left in the first quarter. Chris Kaman replaced him and missed his first five shots, including a layup that was blocked by Tayshaun Prince. "It was real important to get Hill out of the game early," Randolph said. "Like I told the kid, hes having a helluva season." Nick Young provided a much-needed spark off the bench for the lethargic Lakers in the second quarter with 12 points, including a pair of jumpers in the final minute of the half to help them leave the court tied at 40-all after they trailed by as many as 10. NOTES: Kobe Bryant, sidelined indefinitely after surgery on his torn Achilles tendon in April, walked onto the court to a standing ovation at the end of the first quarter -- in his Lakers warm-ups -- and presented a $150,000 check from the club to representatives of the Philippine Red Cross following last weeks deadly Typhoon. ... SAN ANTONIO - As members of the media waited outside the visitors locker room at AT&T Center, Dwane Casey addressed his players behind closed doors, a standard post-game procedure, win or lose. Brandon Ingram Lakers Jersey . After Mondays hard-fought loss, the wait seemed longer than usual. Getting set to go their separate ways for a short Christmas break, the Raptors coach credited his team for their effort on a seemingly impossible three-game road trip, urging them to build on that success when they get back to work at the end of the week. "It was a good trip," Casey said after their 112-99 loss to the Spurs capped off a 2-1 stretch in four days, highlighted by impressive wins in Dallas and Oklahoma City. "I told the guys it was a good start. Were just getting started to where we want to go." Playing in the second night of a back-to-back and coming off their most physically and mentally taxing victory of the campaign - a 104-98 win over the league-best Thunder Sunday - the Raptors simply ran out of gas in San Antonio, facing an unforgiving terror of a team. "We missed some good looks, some of it was fatigue, some of it was legs, some of it was their good defence getting into us," Casey said. "We knew that coming in, that it was going to be a battle. "And thats our next step, to be mentally tough, to fight through fatigue, to fight through back-to-backs and try to do the same things we did [Sunday] night." The final score is not indicative of how closely matched this game turned out to be. In fact, the 13-point margin of victory was San Antonios largest lead of the contest. Although the home team maintained control for most of the night, the Raptors kept pace and refused to roll over or look ahead to their upcoming two-day vacation. "We are a team that has to be scrappy," Amir Johnson acknowledged, scoring just seven points and grabbing eight rebounds in a match-up with future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. "Against teams like [the Spurs] we have to play with the physicality just like we did in Dallas and OKC. We have to be the team that pushes the tempo. We cant relax and thats what we have been doing these past couple of weeks. We fight but unfortunately we came up short tonight." Although Duncan had a quiet nine points and 12 boards, the other two-thirds of San Antonios vintage big three controlled the tempo of the game. Tony Parker led all scorers with 26 to go along with eight assists, while Manu Ginobili added 18 points of the Spurs bench. San Antonios second unit - one of the best in the association - contributed 52 points, giving the Spurs 48-minutes worth of high-level production. The Raptors couldnt keep up. The Spurs out-rebounded Toronto by 10 and grabbed 16 offensive boards. They held a 16-point advantage in the paint, dished out 27 assists and recorded a season-high 24 second chance points. "Its always tough playing in a back-to-back, especially against two of the best teams in the West," said DeMar DeRozan. "We understood that coming in but we were in the game. They hit a couple big time threes that pushed the lead up for them and made it tough for us to keep it within arms length but we fought." DeRozan - who had already face a pair of tough wing defenders in Shawn Marion and Thabo Sefolosha on the trip - struggled against Kawhi Leonard, scoring 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting. "He had a rough night but Kawhi Leonard is one of the top defenders in the league," Casey said of DeRozan. "They were double-teaming him in his post-ups so they werent going to let him go." Terrence Ross was the beneficiary of the added attention paid to DeRozan. The Raptors sophomore made 10 of 16 attempts for 23 points, while Kyle Lowry also scored 23 and recorded a team-best nine assists. Although a 2-1 record on this trip is nothing to scoff at - its two wins more than most expected them to get - Caseys message has been received and his team is striving for more. "I wish we would have got that last win," Johnson insisted. "The two wins is great but it would have been nice to finish with one more. "We cant settle," he continued. "We played some tough teams (on the trip) and that is definitely a confidence boost but we want to keep going and keep the focus we have over this break. We are definitely not happy. We just have to keep working." The Raptors players and coaches will be excused for two days to spend Christmas with their family and friends before reconvening in New York City for practice on Boxing Day. "Its coming at a great time," admitted DeRozan, who is among the league leaders in minutes played and could use the rest. "[It] just gives us a chance to refresh our minds and our bodies and understand what lies ahead after this Christmas break." DeRozan and Johnson are each spending their time off in Toronto with their daughters, both of whom will be celebrating their first Christmas. We just have to get better," Carroll said.NEW YORK -- The key moment of the New York Rangers Game 4 win over the Washington Capitals might have occurred off ice between the second and third periods. New York had squandered a two-goal lead and the momentum in the second. But a fortuitous power play after the buzzer set up the Rangers to grab it all back. And they did. Dan Girardi made the most of Jason Chimeras interference penalty, scoring the go-ahead goal 59 seconds into the third. That led to New Yorks 4-3 victory on Wednesday night that tied the best-of-seven series 2-2. "Weve done better as the series has gone on," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "The game was a series of momentum swings for both teams. The thing I like about our team the past couple of games is that we certainly have bent at times but didnt break." Derek Stepan also scored in the third for the Rangers, who built their second two-goal lead before holding on for their second straight 4-3 win. Girardi ripped a shot from above the left circle off a feed from Derick Brassard to give the Rangers the lead again. "We had some lapses," Capitals forward Joel Ward said. "They scored a power-play goal, and that was tough for us. Plus it is never easy to be down two goals as we were." Tortorella said the teams struggling power play was discussed during intermission, and the talk paid off. "It was a really good power play," Girardi said. "Brass made a heck of a play to get it to the middle of the ice. I knew I was going to shoot far side. It just happened to go in." Stepan made it 4-2 at 6:02, scoring into a wide-open net at the end of a give-and-go play in front with Carl Hagelin, who had a goal and two assists. Game 5 will be back in Washington on Friday before the series returns to Madison Square Garden on Sunday. The home team has won all four games in the first-round Eastern Conference matchup. "Were a confident group in here," Hagelin said. "We do know we cant play in Washington like the last game there. Weve got to come in and play better." Brad Richards and Hagelin staked the Rangers to a 2-0 lead, but goals by Mathieu Perreault and Troy Brouwer tied it for Washington. The Capitals closed within 4-3 when defenceman Karl Alzners shot caromed in off of Perreault for his second of the game at 7:31 of the third. Henrik Lundqvist, announced as a Vezina Trophy finalist earlier Wednesday, made 27 saves. Braden Holtby stopped 30 shots for Washington. New York has won only one series in which it trailed 0-2. "So far were just taking care of business at home," Lundqvist said. "Coming back home being down two games, we had a lot of pressure, but we stepped up. So far we just tied the series. We still need to do whatever we can to get the next one." The Rangers scored four goals in each of their two home playoff wins after scoring a total of one in two road losses. "We knew it was going to be a tough series," Holtby said. "They played really well these last two games and there is some stuff we need to work on. "Its a three-game series now. We still have home-ice advantage." Despite having a 26-15 shots advantage through two periods, the Ranggers found themselves locked in a tie heading into the third. Kobe Bryant Lakers Jersey. . Washington was outshot 13-9 in the second but scored twice in the final 6:52 to get even after Hagelin made it 2-0. The Capitals began spending more time in the New York zone and making it increasingly difficult for the Rangers to get the puck out. The momentum was shifting, and the nervousness began to grow within the crowd as Washingtons puck possession became more dangerous. It just wasnt enough for the Capitals. "I really have to play better," said captain Alex Ovechkin, who recorded only one shot and was a minus-1. "When we have a chance to play in their zone we have to use it. Tonight we didnt do it." Ward got the Capitals going when he led a strong rush up ice after the Rangers gave away the puck. Ward charged in, with Perreault, and made a hard move on defenceman Michael Del Zotto. Ward got Del Zotto down to the ice near the left post and feathered a pass through the crease to Perreault, who tied up Richards and slid in his first career playoff goal. The Rangers appeared set to get out of the second with the one-goal lead they brought into it, but Brouwers first of the playoffs tied it with 17.1 seconds left in the period. Hagelins second goal of the series doubled the Rangers lead midway through the second. Brassard, who had a goal and two assists in the Rangers win in Game 3, made a hard pass from the right point to the left circle that Hagelin fired into the top right corner of the net. The Rangers had taken a 1-0 lead in the first off a gaffe by Holtby. The goalie drifted to his left to track down a dump-in several feet in front and wide of the net. His clearing attempt was knocked down by New York forward Taylor Pyatt, who moved the puck to Hagelin. With Holtby well out of position, Hagelins shot at a net guarded only by defenceman John Erskine was saved by Erskine. The rebound bounced in front to Richards, who scored his first goal of the series and 28th in 87 career post-season games. The otherwise calm period picked up in intensity in the final three-plus minutes. The Rangers were killing a tripping penalty against Del Zotto and got a short-handed chance. Stepan and Washingtons Martin Erat raced after a puck that was sliding into the Washington end. They collided as Ovechkin barrelled into both players and knocked them down. Stepan slid hard into the end boards behind Holtby, and Erat had his arm pinned as he fell into the net. Ovechkin and Erat were penalized for charging and hooking, respectively, giving the Rangers a 5-on-3 power that began after Del Zotto left the penalty box 23 seconds later. New York couldnt do anything with the two-man edge in the final 1:11 of the period, or the final 26 seconds that carried over into the second. NOTES: The Rangers were without D Marc Staal, who returned in Game 3 from a serious eye injury that forced him to miss 29 games. New York got back LW Ryane Clowe after he sat out four games because of a suspected concussion. He earned an assist on Hagelins goal. ... Erat was knocked out of the game by injury. ... Brouwer has seven career playoff goals. ... The Rangers were 1 for 4 on the power play and are 2 for 17 in the series. Flames general manager Jay Feaster instructed his players get fitted for the guards after Calgary captain Mark Giordano suffered a broken ankle and veteran forward Lee Stempniak broke his foot after being hit by pucks last month. Flames players have informed the Players Association they were strongly encouraged by Flames management to wear the shotblockers, but were told the equipment wasnt mandatory. However, Feaster says this is a mandatory team policy which may create a problem as such a policy could be viewed as a CBA violation. (CBA 30.3 Amendments -- The NHL and its Clubs shall not, during the term of this Agreement or any extension thereof, amend or modify the provisions (or portions thereof) of the League Rules or any of the Leagues Playing Rules in existence on the date of this Agreement that affect any terms or conditions of employment of any Player, without the prior written consent of the NHLPA which shall not be unreasonably withheld. The NHL shall furnish proposed amendments to and/or modifications of League Rules that affect any terms or conditions of employment of any Player upon the NHLPAs written request.) "No team can unilaterally make a piece of eqquipment mandatory," Mathieu Schneider, Special Assistant to NHLPA Executive Director Don Fehr, told the Dreger Report. Brian Leetch Jersey. Equipment discussions and proposed changes are expected to funnel through the newly-formed equipment sub-committee before moving on to the joint competition committee and, ultimately, to the board for final approval. All Flames players are complying with managements policy and are currently wearing some form of additional foot protection. The NHLPA intends on reaching out to the NHL to discuss its concerns with Calgarys approach. While very sensitive to why the Flames are doing what they are doing, Schneider worries about "knee-jerk" reactions by NHL clubs and the potential for unintended consequence, such as another injury if teams are allowed to armor their players without going through the appropriate procedural steps. Schneider points toward the ongoing work being done between the league and PA on potential changes to shoulder pads as an example of how thorough the process of full-scale equipment changes has to be. Years ago, players opted for a much larger shoulder pad for added protection. Now, the focus is on developing a smaller and less damaging shoulder pad, in hindsight, correcting an issue that was created by good intentions and in the spirit of safety. CHICAGO -- Jonathan Toews and rookie Brandon Pirri scored in a four-round shootout, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-4 on Thursday night for their fourth straight win. Chris Kreider Rangers Jersey . Radim Vrbata had the lone shootout goal for Phoenix, 7-1-1 in its last nine games. Pirri tied the score 4-all 3 minutes into the third, and 4 seconds after a Chicago power play had elapsed. He connected on a midair deflection of Brent Seabrooks drive from the top of the circle. Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa also scored in regulation for the Blackhawks, who extended their point streak to eight games (7-0-1). Chicago fired a season-high 52 shots through overtime at Coyotes goalie Mike Smith. Phoenix defenceman Michael Stone scored two goals for the first time in his career as the Coyotes overcame an early two-goal deficit to earn a point. Shane Doan and Lauri Korpikoski also scored for Phoenix. At 13-4-3, the Coyotes are off to their best start since 1998-99 when they were 15-3-2 after 20 games. Smith made 48 saves and Chicagos Corey Crawford had 26 in a wide-open, back-and-forth game. The 52 shots allowed by the Coyotes through overtime also were a season high. Smith entered having faced an NHL-high 555 shots. Phoenix defenceman Zbynek Michalek left after five shifts in the first period with a lower-body injury. The Blackhawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 6:22, but the Coyotes came back to tie it 2-all after the first period. Saad opened the scoring 2:37 in when he popped in a rebound with Smith down on the ice and a scrum in the crease. Sharp made it 2-0 at 6:22 with a power-play goal, on a rising shot fired from the top of the slot and through a screen. The 23-year-old Stone cut it to 2-1 just 41 seconds later when his shot from the right point deflected off Pirris stick and past Crawford. Doans power-play goal, chipped in from the right side of the net with 5:56 left in the first, tied it at 2. Keith Yandles shot from the point missed the net, caromed off the back boards and straight to Doan. Hossa put Chicago back ahead 3-2 at 5:05 of the second when he drove to the net unchecked and scored on a rebound of his own shot from left wing. Then Korpikoski and Stone scored 2:11 apart late in the second to put Phoenix ahead for the first time, 4-3. From the edge of the crease, Korpikoski wrapped in a rebound of Radim Vrbatas shot with 5:05 left in the period to knot it at 3. Stones second goal, on a high drive from the top of the left circle, sailed past Crawford on the stick side and put the Coyotes in front. After Pirri scored to tie it at 4, the Blackhawks took control and outshot the Coyotes 17-6 in the third. Smith stopped Hossa from point-blank range with a minute left in regulation. JEREZ, Spain -- Red Bull has unveiled the car it hopes Sebastian Vettel will steer to a fifth consecutive Formula One world championship, adapting to a major switch to six-cylinder engines. Brook Lopez Nets Jersey . Four-time defending world champion Vettel and new teammate Daniel Ricciardo pulled the tarp off the RB10 on Tuesday at the Jerez circuit, just before the start of preseason testing on Tuesday. They then posed for photos with team boss Christian Horner and chief designer Adrian Newey. F1 tweaks the rules governing the engineering of cars each season, but this years changes have required a major change in design. That has led to speculation Red Bull may have trouble to extend its four-year dominance of the competition, which last year saw Vettel match Michael Schumachers record of 13 wins in one season as he cruised to the title. Red Bull said its new car is "our first interpretation of F1s radical new technical regulations" and that it "has little in common with its predecessors." Besides switching to a 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine instead of last years 2.4-litre V8 engine, the rule changes focus on boosting cars energy recovery systems, which generate energy from braking and through waste heat from the engine. F1 has also lowered fuel to 100kg per race, down from 160kg, increased the cars weight, and forced alterations to gearboxes, exhaust, nose height and wings. Mercedes and Force India also presented their cars for the new season in chilly conditions in southern Spain on Tuesday morning. Toro Rosso, Red Bulls sister team its uses to develop drivers, launched its car on Monday. Driver Jean-Eric Vergne said that the new rules means more excitement for a competition that has been owned by Vettel. "Probably (the engine) will make it (the field) a little bit more apart - maybe even closer. I really have absolutely no idea," said Vergne. "No one in the team knows if they are in the right direction or not. It is so easy to get it wrong this year that not even after the first test in Jerez." Preseason testing continues here until Friday. The next tests will be held in Bahrain on Feb. 19-22 and Feb. 27-March 2. The season opens with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16. Reilly was knocked out the game and the team said on Sunday he had suffered a concussion. He missed practice Tuesday but was back taking most of the reps on Wednesday. "Today was pretty much full-go for me." the six-foot-three, 215-pound first-year Eskimo said afterwards. "Because its non-contract every day for us (quarterbacks) nothing changed for me than it would on a normal Day 2. (Thursday) we will probably be a little more rigorous than a normal Day 3 for me. Well come out, have a normal practice and then do some strenuous cardio stuff and just push everything a little harder than normal. "As long as everything continues to go as expected Im hopeful that Ill be cleared to play. There only a few days but those are long days, theres still lots to do." The 3-10 Eskimos play the 5-8 Montreal Alouettes Saturday in a game they have to win to retain any realistic playoff hopes. Reilly remained in the game for one play after the hit -- throwing a touchdown pass -- but was pulled after feeling dizziness and confusion on the sidelines. He said Wednesday hes felt no adverse symptoms since waking up on Sunday. "My schedule, my routine hasnt changed. The first night after the game even went pretty smoothly. Neck was a little sore that night but gone by the next morning. Since then theres been nothing to deal with. Meals have been going good, sleeping is going well, meetings and picking up the ready list and being prepared hass all gone well. Drazen Petrovic Nets Jersey. " He admitted, however, that concussions affect people differently and hes not out of the woods yet. "This is a learning experience and realizing what guys go through when they get injured," he said. "Its not fun to be on this side of it but Im just thankful that things have gone well so far and hopefully they will continue to be that way. "It was disappointing not being able to practice yesterday. That was the first practice Ive ever missed, college, high school, professional or anything." Reilly, in his fourth CFL season, has taken a tremendous amount of punishment this season but said it was ironic that he took the most dangerous hit when he was doing what people have been saying he should do to protect himself. "Everybodys talked all season about how I need to change my style of play because Im going to get hurt and the play I get hurt on Im actually in the pocket and Im not out there running around trying to lower my head." He watched a replay of the hit early this week and said it was a "scary hit" but felt there was nothing he could have done differently to avoid it. "I just feel fortunate that there hasnt been any bad long-term symptoms to this point. But Im also not naive. I understand things can still creep up and until Im cleared to play Im not going to breathe too easily." Head coach Kavis Reed said while Reilly looked fine Wednesday and was sharp with his passes, the team will monitor him closely the rest of the week. "We still have 72 hours we can work with," he said. "There are still some hurdles he has to cross but right now were hopeful hell be cleared to play." SURREY, B. Tim Hardaway Jersey .C. -- Thomas DeMarco is grateful to get another chance to lead the B.C. Lions. Now its up to him to show he deserves it. The second-year quarterback has had his share of ups and downs since taking over from injured starter Travis Lulay five weeks ago. He led the Lions to back-to-back road wins in his first two CFL starts, but has struggled the last three games -- all losses to division rivals. Still, the Lions will go with DeMarco again when they host the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday night. "Youre going to have tough things youre going to push through and the fact that I got the nod, it means a lot to me," DeMarco said after Tuesdays practice. "I want to work through my difficulties, as any quarterback would like to, and Im happy that I got that opportunity." The product of Old Dominion University did a good job of managing the ball in his first two starts, completing 39-of-65 passes for 435 yards and four touchdowns against no interceptions. In B.C.s three straight losses -- including Saturdays 35-14 blowout in Regina at the hands of the Saskatchewan Roughriders -- DeMarco was a pedestrian 49-for-95 passing for 677 yards to go along with four TDs and eight picks. And while Lions head coach Mike Benevides agreed DeMarco hasnt been at his best of late, he added that the 24-year-old gives his team the best chance to win. "Right now Thomas is still the guy that takes the first snap because hes shown an ability to make those plays," said Benevides. "Theres been some regression, but any young guy is going to go through tough times, especially at the quarterback position. "If you ask any quarterback, theyre going to ask to fight through those things and appreciate the fact they were given the opportunity." Lulay, who has been out with an injury to his throwing shoulder since Sept. 15 and was originally expected to only miss two weeks, performed a bit of soft toss on the sidelines during Tuesdays practice but nothing more. "Im kind of at the mercy of the symptoms," said Lulay. "I push it to where I know I need shut it down and hope to continue to progress." The Lions (9-7) host the Eskimos (3-13) on Friday in a game that means nothing in the standings, but a lot to the teams psyche. B.C. is locked into the West Divisions third seed with two games remaining, and will be on the road to face either Saskatchewan or the Calgary Stampeders when the post-season begins. If the Lions are going to make any noise in the playoffs, two strong outings to close out the regular season will be critical. "I want us to go out there and play like we know we can," said DeMarco, who threw four interceptions against the Roughriders. "Weve put quarters together, weve put halves together (but) we havent put a whole game together. Im sure if were able to do that well turn some heads." If they dont, its not like Benevides is out of options if DeMarco continues to struggle and Lulay remains on the shelf. Buck Pierce, a member of the Lions from 2005 to 2010, was acquired from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last month as an insurance policy. The 31-year-old has seen limited action in his return to B.C., but said he will be ready if called upon. Benevides doesnt want to have to make that move, but added the time is now for DeMarco to step up after a disappointing performance against Saskatchewan. "Its important and critical for us and for him to make sure that when he goes against the Edmonton Eskimos, he shows right off the top that hes learned from it, hes focused and he has the ability and the capability to understand where the offence asks him to put the ball -- thats his job," said Benevides. "Its vital, not only for us but for him, to get it right." For a second straight day, Gionta took part in practice without his non-contact jersey. Gionta, who underwent surgery on a torn bicep back in May, wont be playing in any pre-season games this weekend but is hopeful to be ready to play by next week. "My preference would be to get in more than one pre-season game but well have to see how it goes next week," Gionta told the media on Thursday. The Canadiens are taking their time with their captain, who has been practicing on a line with Michael Bournival and Martin St. Pierre. However as he progresses, it is likely he will rejoin the line with Rene Bourque and Tomas Plekanec. There was also some good news for Gionta off the ice as the Canadiens announced that he is this years recipient of the Jean Beliveau Trophy, awarded to the player that shows a strong charitable commitment to the community. On top of participating in many fundraising events, Gionta and his wife Haarvest started an initiative to allow sick and underprivileged children the opportunity to attend Canadiens home games in a private suite donated by the Gionta family. Anderson Varejao Jersey. At the end of this season, Giontas financial support to the community will have reached an amount over $250,000. "It has been something that has been close to our hearts for a while now and we are lucky and fortunate to be able to give back to people in need," Gionta said after practice. In other news from training camp, it wasnt a good day to be a defenceman for the Canadiens. Francis Bouillon and Douglas Murray are both day-to-day with lower body injuries. Michel Therrien referred to them as "training camp"-type injuries. "It is more of a precaution. If it was the regular season, they wouldnt be out," Therrien said at his news conference. A more seriously injured defenceman is Davis Drewiske, who hurt his shoulder in practice on Wednesday and will be out for the next four weeks. The Canadiens recalled Darren Dietz late Wednesday to replace Drewiske. MADRID, Spain -- Mikel Ricos perfectly taken header helped Athletic Bilbao beat 10-man Villarreal 2-0 at its new San Mames Stadium in the Spanish league on Monday. Jrue Holiday Jersey . Rico dove horizontally to meet Andoni Iraolas precise long cross from the right to score his second league goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Two minutes later, Aritz Aduriz netted Bilbaos second when he raced forward and pounced on a poor clearance by Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, sending a low shot rolling past goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo. Villarreal midfielder Bruno Soriano was sent off for a second yellow card in first-half injury time for holding Bilbao winger Markel Susaeta. "We needed to win, weve come from two matches where we havent won and now were well placed," Iraola said. "What we now need is to get a good result away from home also." Bilbao is sixth in the standings on 16 points, one less than fourth-place Villarreal. Barcelona leads the standings on 25 points after nine matches, ahead of Atletico Madrid on 24, two more than third-place Real Madrid. Also, Levante beat Celta Vigo 1-0 after a goal by Papakouli Diop. Celta had dominated most of the match when, against the flow of play, Diop connected with the ball after it rebounded off the wall from a free kick taken by Juan Francisco Garcia in the 89th minute. "We found ourselves with that goal which, well, I dont know if we deserved it or not, but no one can take it off us now," said Garcia, adding that the weather conditions on the field had been very difficult due to heavy rain. Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas had saved a low shot by Danish forward Michael Krohn-Dehli in the 12th minute and was again in action in the 40th when he parried Antonio Rodriguezs shot. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006.ROME -- Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez scored either side of halftime as Juventus asserted its dominance in Serie A with a 2-0 win at AC Milan on Sunday. Striding toward its third consecutive title, the victory moved Juventus 11 points ahead of second-place Roma. "Only a tank could stop Juventus," new Milan coach Clarence Seedorf said. "They showed their strength and Tevez provided the difference. Hes a great player." Milan, which was starting to gain momentum under Seedorf, dropped to 10th, six points adrift of the European places. Milan started strongly with Kaka and Andrea Poli threatening in the first half but Juve took control when Llorente collected a pass from Stephan Lichtsteiner in the 44th to score from the edge of the box and highlight Milans porous defence. Then in the 68th, Tevez was left alone to find the target with a shot from 25 metres (yards) that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar. It was Tevezs 15th goal of the season, putting him atop the Italian leagues scoring chart, one ahead of Fiorentinas Giuseppe Rossi, who has been out injured since January. Milan sorely missed Mario Balotelli, who is still recovering from a right shoulder injury. Making matters worse, midfielder Poli was taken to the hospital after getting hit in the face during a collision with Juventus defender Martin Caceres in the 51st. Earlier, third-placed Napoli was held to a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Livorno without its standout forward Gonzalo Higuain. Belgium midfielder Dries Mertens converted a penalty for Napoli in the 31st but Livorno equalized when a backheel effort from its 19-year-old Senegalese defender Mbaye Ibrahima resulted in an own-goal by Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina in the 39th. Still, Napoli moved seven points ahead of fourth-placed Fiorentina in the race for the final Champions League spot. Fiorentina, which was missing two key suspended midfielders in Borja Valero and David Pizarro, lost 1-0 at home to Lazio. Also, the Tuscan squads coach Vincenzo Montella served a touchline ban following the fallout from Mondays 2-2 draaw at Parma, which featured three red cards. Jrue Holiday Pelicans Jersey. Albanian midfielder Lorik Cana scored for Lazio five minutes in with a bicycle kick. Livorno moved level with Chievo Verona third from bottom, with the last three clubs destined for Serie B at the end of the season. Higuain is among the Serie A leaders with 13 goals but was suspended for this match. His replacement, Goran Pandev, earned Napolis penalty with what appeared to be minimal contact from Livorno defender Federico Ceccherini, leading to protests from the hosts. Elsewhere, Parma beat 10-man Sassuolo 1-0 with a second-minute goal from Marco Parolo to move level with Hellas Verona in sixth place -- one point behind Inter Milan and the Europa League zone. Verona goalkeeper Rafael saved a 47th-minute penalty from Rolando Bianchi in a 0-0 draw at home with Bologna. Also, Sampdoria won 2-0 at Torino with goals from Stefano Okaka and Manolo Gabbiadini; Atalanta beat 10-man Chievo Verona 2-1 after strikes by Carlos Carmona in the 21st and a winner from Luca Cigarini in the 85th; and Genoa beat 10-man Catania 2-0 with goals from Luca Antonelli and Stefano Sturaro. Earlier in the lunchtime fixture, Cagliari kept its focus to beat visiting Udinese 3-0 amid speculation that the Sardinian club could be sold. Colombian forward Victor Ibarbo put Cagliari ahead in the 18th, Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino doubled the lead in the 81st and Macedonian midfielder Agim Ibraimi found the target in the 89th. Udinese captain Antonio Di Natale threatened several times in the first half, hitting the crossbar with a deflected shot on one occasion. The victory moved Cagliari level with Udinese in 14th place. Cagliari president Massimo Cellino attended the match, his first stadium appearance since January. Fans greeted him with chants of "We want a president." Eleonora Sport Ltd., which is run by the Cellino family, is on the verge of taking over a 75 per cent stake in fallen English power Leeds, leading many to believe Cellino is losing interest in Cagliari, which has been beset by stadium troubles.
